Huawei, ZTE Selected by Nepal Telecom for NGN Construction
August 13, 2010
Two Chinese telecom equipment suppliers Huawei and ZTE have entered into separate contracts with Nepal's state-owned fixed-line operator NT (Nepal Telecom) to provide and install an NGN (Next Generation Network) in Nepal, according to an August 6 report by TeleGeography. It is reported that Huawei is responsible for providing NGN service in the country except the Kathmandu Valley area under the package signed, dubbed Package B. NGN service deployed in the Kathmandu Valley area will be covered by ZTE, as per Package A. The entire NGN project is estimated at US$19 million, and under the terms of the agreements, it is expected that the two vendors will start NGN infrastructure construction within the next six months. It is projected that the new NGN will be used for providing TV and ultra high speed Internet access via PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).
